Surreal Tour Poster
Gray Area is a surreal tour poster created for the fictional band Jem & The Holograms. This project explored concept development, collaboration, photography, and experimental design. I collaborated with fellow Penn State graphic design student Karolina Ptakowski. The title was chosen at random, and the concept was developed from it. The poster examines how the persona of a pop star can convey a sense of being trapped, using photography, editing, and experimental approaches to scale and typography to emphasize this feeling and create a distinctly surreal effect.

The project began with a mood board featuring inspiration for imagery, lighting, photography techniques, and surrealism. Since the band is a pop group, we focused on capturing elements of a pop star persona. The mood board included images that conveyed this pop star energy, as well as surreal elements such as experimentation with scale, typography, and visual composition. During the sketching phase, surrealism was emphasized through the use of textures, exaggerated scale, and playful typographic treatments, helping to guide the visual direction of the final poster.
